Medication management
Medication management may be a supportive adjunct intervention to psychotherapy for mental health treatment. It involves the careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of medications used to treat psychiatric conditions. This process is overseen by Heather Castile.
The goals of medication management include:
Assessment: Evaluating the client's symptoms, medical history, and any co-existing medical conditions to determine if medication is appropriate.
Medication Selection: Choosing the most effective medication(s) based on the client's specific diagnosis, symptoms, and individual needs. This also includes considering potential side effects, interactions with other medications, and the client's preferences.
Dosage Adjustment: Starting with an appropriate dosage and making adjustments as needed to achieve the desired therapeutic effect while minimizing side effects. This often involves a trial-and-error process to find the optimal dosage.
Monitoring: Regularly monitoring the client's response to the medication, including tracking symptom improvement, side effects, and overall well-being. This can involve follow-up appointments, laboratory tests, and self-reported feedback.
Education: Providing the client with information about their medication, including how it works, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to the prescribed regimen.
Coordination of Care: Working closely with other healthcare providers, therapists, and support systems to ensure a comprehensive approach to the client's treatment.
