Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

It is said that the eyes are a window into the soul.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. EMDR is based on the idea that trauma can overwhelm the brain's natural ability to process information, leading to lingering symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, and emotional distress. EMDR is often used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and addictions used to cope for symptoms of trauma.

During EMDR sessions, Derrick guides the client through recalling a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. This dual attention helps the brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional charge and allowing the individual to gain new insights and perspectives. Over time, the distress associated with the memory diminishes, and the client can integrate the experience more adaptively.

Derrick continues to grow the depth and skills of his EMDR practice by working with Masters in the field- through ongoing consultation and continuing education.
