Derrick Miller | LMSW, SEP
Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist
I received my Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice in Mental Health from the University of Michigan. I take a creative, client-centered approach to therapy, specializing in supporting individuals who have experienced shock or developmental trauma, experiences that often shape relational dynamics and patterns in everyday life.
Not only do I bring training and education to my work, but my own journey has deeply informed it. I experienced a chaotic and traumatic childhood, struggled with addiction, faced immense grief after the death of my mother, navigated dissociation/disembodiment, and self-isolation. The very modalities I now use in my practice, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, mindfulness, and spirituality, were central to my own healing. This personal experience gives me a deep understanding of the courage it takes to engage in this work and the powerful meaning that can emerge from even our most challenging experiences.
I am a Somatic Experiencing™ (SE) Practitioner and hold the SEP certificate. I have also completed training in Somatic Resilience and Regulation (SRR), which focuses on the neurobiology of early trauma and supports rebuilding developmental capacities through nervous system regulation.
My therapeutic approach blends multiple evidence-based modalities, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, attachment theory, Somatic Experiencing (SE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Ego State Interventions, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have completed EMDRIA-approved EMDR training and Levels 1 and 2 in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
I have a deep passion for learning and teaching, which informs my practice and my commitment to serving the community with thoughtful, informed, and compassionate care.
